Since its establishment in 2018, Materials have been enhancing the quality of our homes with coveted kitchen necessities, which have often sold out since its establishment in 2018. Now, this popular direct-to-consumer brand wants to set our dining table with beautifully crafted ceramics.
Its first tableware series was launched today, with four ceramic styles-full plate, half plate, open bowl and round bowl-in light and dark colors. These works are made of a rare clay, which is extracted from a customized mixture of five natural Korean soils, giving them a soft grainy feel that will undergo subtle changes in different light. Their unique shape is a collaboration with Seoul ceramic artist Soil Baker.
Human hands participate in every step of the Material tableware series. Each plate and bowl are manually thrown on a pottery wheel, fired using ancient craftsmanship from Yeozhou, South Korea, and finished with a unique surface by hand.
Material co-founder Eunice Byun said in a press release: “We want to create building blocks that feel like a personal collection, not a set of works from a box.” “They are simple enough to make food stand out, but yet again. It’s detailed enough to be worth another look."
Not only can the plates and bowls be safely placed in the dishwasher and microwave, but they are also light and strong enough for daily use, making them a perfect upgrade for your kitchen table. The starting price for a set of two half boards is only $60, and the starting price for a set of four full boards is $155.
Every time Material launches a new product, it immediately becomes a hot spot. When the brand released its best-selling cutting board, it sold out in just three days-and then sold out five more times in a year. So we expect Material's new tableware will be available soon. Until March 31st, when you buy anything from the ceramic collection, Material will donate 50% of the profits to the #HateIsaVirus Community Action Fund.
